Summary
Transfers of staff members between Academic and Administrative, Service & Support positions require change in vacation, sick leave and personal days. In this transition, service date is considered the original hire date the employee started working full-time at the University of Missouri. The Retirement Plan, Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance, Life Insurance, Long-Term Disability and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plans will continue whether in an Academic or Administrative, Service & Support position.
Academic Staff Members Transferring to Administrative, Service and Support Positions
Academic staff members are not credited with vacation, sick leave and personal days. When the Academic staff member becomes Administrative, Service & Support, personal days will be prorated beginning with the month of the original date of hire. The employee will start accruing sick leave at the time of transfer at the rate of one (1) day per month, or 12 days per year. The employee will start accruing vacation as follows: for exempt positions the accrual rate will be 17 days per year if the staff member has been employed by the University for five (5) years or less; if employed over five (5) years, the staff member will accrue at the rate of 22 days per year. For nonexempt positions the accrual rate will be 12 days per year if employed for five (5) years or less, 17 days per year if employed over five (5) years, and 22 days if employed 15 years or more.
Administrative, Service and Support Staff Members Transferring to Academic Positions
Academic staff members are not credited with vacation, sick leave and personal days; therefore the balance of the unused accrual for vacation or personal days is not carried over to the Academic position. Administrative, Service and Support staff members transferring to Academic positions who have unused vacation days will receive, at the supervisor's discretion, pay or vacation time before the status change is effected. Accumulated unused sick leave will be banked and credited in calculating retirement benefits.
If an Academic staff member later returns to an Administrative, Service & Support position, after having served in an academic position, the balance of his/her accumulated unused sick leave previously accrued when he/she was in an Administrative, Service & Support position, will be available for use at the time of the transfer. The vacation and personal days will start to accrue again at that time.
