University of Missouri Board of Curators elect officers for 2010

Judith Gosney Haggard of Kennett was elected to a one-year term as chair of the University of Missouri Board of Curators during the board’s meeting Dec. 11 in St. Louis. Warren K. Erdman of Kansas City, Mo., was elected vice chair.

The leadership terms for Haggard and Erdman begin Jan. 1, 2010. Haggard, who served this year as the board’s vice chair, succeeds Bo Fraser of Columbia, whose board term expires Dec. 31.

Haggard currently chairs the Executive Committee and the Academic, Student and External Affairs Committee. She also is a member of the Compensation and Human Resources Committee and the Governance Committee. She is a Family Nurse Practitioner at the SEMO Health Network in Kennett and a past examiner for the certification of substance abuse counselors.

Haggard received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She is the founder of the Dunklin County Caring Community Council and a founding member of the parent organization at Mizzou. Haggard is a member of the MU Alumni Association and an elder in the Presbyterian Church, and has served as a past board member of the State Alcohol Council, the Delta Children’s Home and the Visiting Nurses’ Association. She and her husband, David, also are members of the Jefferson Club, and their two children, Trent and Claire, are alums of MU. Haggard has received the Community Service Award in recognition of her community work in Kennett.

Erdman chairs the Compensation and Human Resources Committee and the Governance Committee, and is a member of the Academic, Student and External Affairs Committee. He is senior vice president of Corporate Affairs for Kansas City Southern.

Erdman is an alum of Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. He is a member of the Bank Midwest N.A. and the Dickinson Financial Corporation Boards of Directors. He also is a member of the board of directors of the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, the Downtown Council of Kansas City and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Erdman is a member of the UMKC Trustees board and serves on the boards of many U.S. rail industry associations. Erdman and his wife Jenny are involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations in Greater Kansas City.

The board of curators is the governing body of the University of Missouri and consists of nine members who are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. Curators serve six-year terms with three terms expiring every two years.
