COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri Board of Curators recognized 11 faculty members from across the UM System as Curators’ Distinguished Professors and Professor Emeritus, the highest honor granted to faculty by the board.
"The board grants these awards to outstanding scholars, researchers and educators across our four universities who have made significant impacts on their students, colleagues and fields," said Todd Graves, chair of the UM Board of Curators. “We are proud to have such world-class talent and intellect at our universities where they make important advances every day.”
Faculty who receive this designation have demonstrated exemplary research and/or teaching in their subject areas.
“Curators’ Distinguished Professors are proven leaders who move our university, state and nation forward through teaching, research and meaningful engagement,” University of Missouri President Mun Choi said. “Their dedication to excellence prepares our students for success, improves the lives of Missourians and strengthens our economy and workforce.”
This year’s recipients are:
Mizzou
- Dan Edidin, professor of mathematics in the College of Arts and Science
- Paul de Figueiredo, principal investigator at the Bond Life Sciences Center and NextGen Precision Health endowed professor of molecular microbiology and immunology in the School of Medicine
- Stefan Freund, artistic director of the Mizzou New Music Initiative and professor of composition in the School of Music
- Suchi Guha, professor of physics and astronomy in the College of Arts and Science
- Jung Ha-Brookshire, department chair and professor of textile and apparel management and interim department chair of theatre and performance studies in the College of Arts and Science
- Wenjun Ma, professor of pathobiology and integrative biomedical sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine
UMKC
- Peter Koulen, Felix and Carmen Sabates Missouri endowed chair in vision research and professor of ophthalmology and biomedical sciences in the School of Medicine
S&T
- Eric Bryan, professor of English and technical communication (Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor)
- Mohamed ElGawady, Alard and Sheri Kaplan faculty scholar and professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering
UMSL
- Michael Cosmopoulos, the Hellenic Government-Karakas Family Foundation professor in Greek studies and professor of archaeology and history in the College of Arts and Sciences
- Charles Granger, professor of biology and education in the College of Arts and Sciences (Curators’ Distinguished Professor Emeritus)
