In conjunction with the University of Missouri System, the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU), the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), the Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T), and the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) conducted voluntary surveys in April 2015 to understand students' experiences and opinions concerning sexual harassment and gender-based violence. Our goal is to foster a safe and supportive campus community where students have the freedom to grow academically and personally. The survey focused on soliciting feedback from all students, regardless of experiences or opinions, in order to to make our campuses safer.

Administration

The university sponsored the survey. For the MU survey, Westat, a private research organization, administered the survey and assisted in the analysis of the data. For the UMKC, S&T, and UMSL surveys, MU's Assessment Resource Center (ARC), a neutral third-party unit that provides expertise in assessment and evaluation, administered the survey and assisted in the analysis of the data.

Participation

A random sample of both undergraduate students and graduate/professional students was asked to participate in order to gain a statistically significant sample size.

A link to the survey was sent to a random sample of student email accounts in early April 2015. The survey included sections that asked about students' knowledge and beliefs about social situations, perceptions related to sexual misconduct, and related resources. Also, it asked about personal experiences. The survey was 100% voluntary; students were informed that they did not have to participate and could stop at any time.

Some of the language in the survey was explicit, but it was important that we asked the questions in this way to be clear about what we meant. Information on how to get help appeared at the bottom of each page of the survey.

Please be aware, however, that coordinators are not a confidential reporting option. Confidential reporting options are listed on the Reporting Incidents webpage.
