Faculty and Staff Policies
Work continues on drafting policies for faculty and staff accused of Title IX offenses. Drafts from the respective committees (Intercampus Faculty Council for the faculty as accused policy; Human Resources Council for the staff as accused policy), will be vetted across the university to include Title IX offices, faculty, staff, students, and campus and system leadership teams.
Conversation with Students
On December 2, President Wolfe convened a conference call with student leaders from across the system regarding Title IX efforts. Highlights of the call include a discussion and feedback of the on-site campus visits, reflection on the need for educating our student population on Title IX and prevention practices, and confirmation of increased dialogue with student leaders regarding Title IX initiatives. This call was the first conversation of many that will take place as we continue to seek input from students.
System Title IX Website: FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the University of Missouri's policies and procedures related to Title IX are now on the UM System Title IX website at https://umsystem.edu/ums/hr/titleix/faqs. These answer many of the questions we have received from constituencies across the system. We hope that the comprehensive nature of the FAQs will allow all members of our university community to easily find answers to any Title IX-related questions.
System Title IX Website: Timeline
We have published a timeline on the system website at https://umsystem.edu/ums/hr/titleix/timeline. The timeline documents the work outlined for the year. Because many of the activities on the timeline are contingent on the success of others, this is a living document and we will adjust and update the timeline as needed.
Title IX Coordinator Searches
UMKC: UMKC continues their search for a Title IX coordinator with due diligence to ensure they find the best fit for their campus.
MU: Four finalists will visit campus this month. The day-long visits include meetings with a broad array of university constituents including Chancellor Loftin, representatives from faculty, staff and students, the Title IX interim coordinator and deputy coordinators. In addition, the candidates also participate in an open forum, where the entire community is invited to meet the candidate and ask questions.
Reminder: Mandated Reporter Training
Please remember that the 20-minute training for mandated reporters is now live. This training is designed to inform employees about their duty to report Title IX violations and comprehensively covers reporting of sex and gender discrimination incidents, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, bullying, stalking, and related behaviors. In addition, it addresses the reporting of crimes and crime statistics for Clery Act compliance when those crimes intersect with Title IX and Title VII (as in the case of sexual assault). Each campus is managing the timing and communication of this training. MU, Missouri S&T and UM System have announced the training via email. On-Site Campus Visits
Daniel Swinton and Brett Sokolow, our NCHERM consultants, continue their on-site campus visits. Daniel made a second visit to MU on November 24-25, 2014. Brett made a first visit to UMKC on December 8-9, 2014.
Both Daniel Swinton and Brett Sokolow will be on-site again in the early part of 2015 with another round of visits to UMSL (Swinton) and Missouri S&T (Sokolow). The series of assessment visits, planned for completion by the end of January, are focused on the evaluation of intervention and prevention practices. The last visits, which will occur later in the spring, are designated as follow-up visits to assess campus progress on implementation of best practices.
