House filed mark up for HB3, passed HB1465

The House Budget Committee did their mark up on HB2003 higher education. The House passed a House Committee Substitute, which restores $38 million to higher education's core budget. Of the $38 million, UM System would receive $17.2 million. This is a 4.2 percent increase from the governor’s proposal.

Chairman Fitzpatrick offered and passed an amendment that would fund the UM system line item projects at 60 percent and roll them into the UM System’s core. In exchange, we have to keep the projects at the original intended level and we cannot ask to fully fund these projects for the next two fiscal years.

Below is what each program would receive:

  • $6 million for the MU Medical School Partnership (Springfield Clinical Campus); requested $10 million
  • $1.8 million for the UMKC School of Dentistry Satellite at MSSU; requested $3 million
  • $1.2 million for the Missouri S&T and MSU Engineering Expansion; requested $2 million
  • $1.2 million for UMKC/MSU Pharmacy Doctorate Program; requested $2 million.

The Senate 3rd read and passed HB1465, the degree legislation. The bill will now go back over to the House to be voted on again before it gets sent to the governor’s office.
