As part of the university's voluntary retirement plan offerings, employees are eligible for a FREE, confidential financial counseling session. Ask questions about retirement, learn about investment options, create an action plan, etc. Convenient appointments are available on each campus with representatives from Fidelity and TIAA.
To meet with a Fidelity Retirement Representative, you may call 1-800-642-7131 or visit http://www.fidelity.com/atwork/reservations to make an online reservation.
To meet with a TIAA Retirement Representative (403(b) plan only), you may call 1-800-732-8353 or visit www.tiaa-cref.org/schedulenow to make an online reservation.
A one-on-one consultation provides guidance to help you maximize your retirement savings and plan for other goals. Retirement representatives are seasoned financial professionals, on staff with Fidelity and TIAA, and are non-commissioned to ensure that UM employees receive unbiased information. The Retirement representatives can meet at your convenience -- at a designated location or over the phone. Best of all, there is no fee for this added benefit! Whether your retirement is many years away or just around corner, schedule a one-on-one consultation to:
- Ask questions about saving for retirement and other goals
- Evaluate investment choices that meet your needs
- Create an action plan to get and stay on track for retirement
- Review retirement income options
This seminar is offered by Fidelity, the plan administrator for the university's core and voluntary retirement plans.
This free seminar is designed for faculty and staff 10 years or less from retirement. It is a single session offered multiple times throughout the year and provides an overview of the UM Retirement, Disability and Death (RDD) Benefit Plan (i.e., the pension plan). In addition, this seminar will help you review your personal estimate of your pension benefits, if you elect to calculate one through the online Retirement Calculator.
Note: Be sure to run an online estimate before the seminar using the online Retirement Calculator available through myHR (navigate to Main Menu >> Self Service >> Benefits >> Retirement Calculator Links).
This free four-part seminar series is designed for faculty and staff 10 years or less from retirement. You are encouraged to register for the entire series. Also, you are welcome to attend with your spouse or partner so you can plan your future together. Generally, this series is offered two times per year, and employees who are known to be within 10 years of retirement are sent email invitations. If you don't see a set of dates listed at the top of this page, then you may contact email@example.com to inquire when the next series is scheduled.
- Financial Planning (part 1 of 4)
Learn about techniques to better plan for your financial future. We will discuss reaching your financial goals, why you should save early and often, investment choices, and holding steady in a stormy market.
- Social Security (part 2 of 4)
Learn about how Social Security works, what to expect, and when to contact them.
- Estate Planning (part 3 of 4)
Estate planning involves your assets (your property), and the various forms of ownership and titles that those assets may take. Topics covered will include estate planning, health care directives, living wills, transferring assets, and trusts.
- University Retirement Plan (part 4 of 4)
An overview of the UM Retirement, Disability and Death (RDD) Benefit Plan (i.e., the pension plan). In addition, this seminar will help you review your personal estimate of your pension benefits, if you elect to calculate one through the online Retirement Calculator.
Please note, this four-part seminar series does not cover potential changes that might result if the Board of Curators votes to approve the retiree insurance recommendations; instead, it addresses the current retirement process and requirements.
The UM System's Retirement Program offers on-demand seminars that you may watch at your own pace from the convenience of your own computer. They are listed at the top of this webpage. Anyone with an Internet connection should be able to view these seminars. If you are having trouble, please contact the HR Service Center by phone at (573) 882-2146 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
