Update on systemwide structure reports

Dear faculty, staff and students,

On July 28, the Board of Curators voted to merge the roles of UM System president and MU chancellor. Since then, my fellow chancellors and I have worked collaboratively to navigate a potential path forward and establish a structure that ensures the voice of each university is heard and that our institutions work together for the benefit of our students and our state. Additionally, UM System Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer Ryan Rapp has been working to identify best practices for achieving operational changes to increase administrative efficiency and uphold operational excellence systemwide.

Collectively, we are pleased with our proposed processes as they will allow our four universities to grow and innovate. They will also  leverage our collective strengths so we can deliver on our mission and pursue excellence in research, teaching and service. We’d like to collect any input for feedback from our university community before seeking final board approval. I invite you to share your feedback with your faculty, staff and student government leaders, or  to send an email to your chancellor by Friday, Nov. 27. The board plans to reconvene and vote on the reports in December.

We plan to share our progress and the framework for our efforts during the Strategic Theme Discussion at the Board of Curators Public Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19. The reports will be presented as informational items. Both the Council of Chancellors report and VP Rapp’s Administrative Efficiencies report are available online now.

The full public meeting notice and links to listen live will be available on the Board of Curators website tomorrow. If you miss the opportunity to view the livestream, the full audio will be posted on Monday, Nov. 23, in our meeting audio archive.

Thank you for your interest and attention to our progress in this transition.
