Avery Welker of Perryville, Missouri was appointed as the Student Representative to the University of Missouri Board of Curators on July 27, 2018.

Welker is a Ph.D. student in petroleum engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology. Welker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering, also from Missouri S&T, in 2016. He also earned an Associates of Science degree in science and mathematics through the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics, and Computing at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, in 2013.

At Missouri S&T as an undergraduate student, Welker was a resident assistant on campus, involved in the National Residence Hall Honorary, serving as president and various other leadership positions. As a graduate student, he has served as the graduate student liaison of both of the Missouri S&T student chapters of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers.
