Site Administration

What is this site?

This site is the official digital home of the University of Missouri System. Please note, the four UM System universities, Columbia, Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis, each have their own individual sites separate from this one.

Who maintains this site?

The University of Missouri System Joint Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing is responsible for this site. Contact us with any questions you might have.

What if I see an error or need a correction?

If you're a student or member of the general public, please contact us with any issues. If you're a UM staff member making a request, please include:

  1. the full URL of the page to be changed;
  2. Detailed instructions on what needs to be changed, including the location on the page (such as paragraph numbers); and
  3. Any supporting documents or files.

Requests without a full URL or other necessary information or materials may be delayed.

The following turnarounds and timelines apply:

  • Emergency - less than 2 hours; contact Web team directly at (573) 882-9112 or (573) 882-4591.
  • Urgent - less than 8 hours; email updates@umsystem.edu with high priority in Outlook

Web communications strives to make all reasonable updates within 24 hours or less. Updates that include the creation or editing of more than a few pages will be scheduled individually. Timelines can vary from several days to several weeks depending on the extent of the content. Dynamic pages including forms, automation or database features will be scheduled at a project level.

Multimedia and Plugins

How can I view videos embedded on the UM System website?

Our video player of choice is Adobe Flash Player. You can download the software for free on the Adobe website. If you're experiencing problems playing back video, please try restarting your browser or installing the latest version of Flash and restarting your browser.

Our site also uses Windows Media Player and QuickTime files.

How can I play audio available on the UM System website?

This site contains a variety of audio formats, most of which are in Windows Media format and MP3. We recommend Windows Media Player for Windows users and QuickTime for Mac. In addition, some audio is posted as Adobe Flash.

How can I access PDFs available on the UM System website?

To view PDF (Portable Document Format) files, you will need a PDF reader such as Adobe Reader. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the URL of one of the PDF file into Google Docs' free online viewer.

How can I access Microsoft Office files available on the UM System website?

Some content on this site is posted in Microsoft Office formats such as Word (.doc), Excel (.xls) and PowerPoint (.ppt). Wherever possible, files are backsaved to a pre-2007 version and should be able to be opened in Office versions 1997 or above. We try to avoid saving Office files in the new "Doc X" format that is only compatible with version 2007 or later, though sometimes advanced features contained in the file require we use this format.

If you don't have Microsoft Office, you can try downloading a free viewer from Microsoft. Alternative options include the free OpenOffice.org suite, which can open most Office files, and Google Docs, a Web-based service that can open most formats.
