A recent notification was sent to users that have a University of Missouri employee and student Microsoft Office 365 account (which includes two mailboxes). The Microsoft O365 cloud service does not allow for two accounts from the same institution. Therefore, employee accounts will remain; however, we need to delete student accounts. The deletion will take place on Thursday, March 19.
Please see answers below to frequently asked questions. You can get additional information for Office 365 on the University Microsoft Office 365 Resources page. If you have additional questions, please contact your local IT Help Desk.
After I am separated from the University (employee or student), do I keep my email account?
There are no guarantees to any of the Office 365 or other remaining cloud accounts after the relationship with the University has ended.
Are alumni affected by this change?
Employed alumni will keep their employee mailbox only. If you are no longer employed, you can request that your employee mailbox be deleted instead.
I’m a former employee receiving this email but I’m still a student; why am I getting this email and to which account will I have access?
You will need to request that your employee account be deleted. You will continue to have access to your student account.
Can you just delete my student account? I don't want emails from that account to come to my work e-mail.
Yes, we can delete the student account. You will need to make a request through your campus IT Help Desk.
Will I lose my One Drive access as a student/former employee?
Yes; One Drive access in Office 365 is tied to the student account. If you are a current employee, you have access to One Drive through your employee account.
Can mail going to my student email address be forwarded to an outside email address such as Gmail?
No; your student email address will be an alias added to your employee account. Mail cannot be routed to accounts outside the University.
Can I keep my student account?
No. As states, the Microsoft system will not allow for both accounts.
If I am a part-time employee and a full-time student, can I be exempt and keep my student account instead?
No. As an employee, there are certain account requirements that must be in place for access and consistency.
