University of Missouri System announces appointment of MU chancellor search committee

Committee made up of wide representation of campus community, including faculty, staff, alumni, students and retirees

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri System announced today the appointment of a committee to spearhead the search for a new chancellor of the University of Missouri in Columbia, to replace retiring Chancellor Brady Deaton. The 18-person committee, which will be co-chaired by Ann Covington, UM System Curator, and Dean Mills, Dean of the School of Journalism, includes diverse representation of campus constituencies including faculty, staff, alumni, students, retirees and donors.

“We are committed to conducting a search for the next MU chancellor that is broad and inclusive, that involves taking input from the entire campus community,” UM System President Tim Wolfe said. “That commitment extends to the members of our search committee, which includes a curator, chancellor, two deans, numerous professors, representatives from alumni, undergraduate and graduate student groups, Extension and MU Heath System. By empowering such a diverse committee of Missourians who share a passion for the university to help identify the very best candidates, we will ensure that we will achieve excellence in the next MU chancellor.”

The appointment of the search committee is the second major milestone passed this week in the search for a new MU chancellor. Throughout the week, President Wolfe has led the first public forums on the search, which offered the opportunity to members of the general public and other interested stakeholders to provide their input regarding the qualities they want to see in the next MU chancellor. The forums, held at Jesse Hall and Memorial Union on the MU campus, were in addition to other meetings the president has held this week with faculty and staff from MU Extension, alumni, academic leaders and prominent supporters of the university.
