- The W-4P is only valid for pay out of the RET company
- A retiree may claim exempt without meeting the conditions outlined for the W-4
- Additional amounts may be requested as long as the retiree has indicated a number of allowances in Line 2
- If no W-4P is received withholding should be based on Married with three allowances.
- Invalid W-4P forms include:
- Checking box 1 and entering an amount on line 3 (Most common mistake)
- Checking box 1 and entering a number of allowances on line 2
Valid Missouri W-4P Forms
- The Missouri W-4P is different from the Federal W-4P and the Federal and state W-4 forms
- Retirees have two choices when filling out the MO W-4P form
- Check box 1 to elect NOT to have income tax withheld from their pension
OR
- Check box 2 and designate a flat dollar amount to be withheld from their pension - the amount cannot be less than $10 and cannot be a percentage
- If no MO W-4P is received the withholding status should be set up to: "Maintain taxable gross"
