The University of Missouri has established a scholarship fund as part of a legal settlement between the University and the plaintiffs in a class action law suit regarding educational fees and will begin accepting applications on January 16, 2006.

The University has placed $10 million in a scholarship fund, which will create scholarships beginning in Fall 2006 for qualifying students and their spouses and children who are attending one of the campuses of the University of Missouri.  Qualifying students attended one of the campuses of the University of Missouri as resident undergraduates between January 1995 and August 2001 and were above the age of 16 and below the age of 22.

In Fall 2006, as many as 4,770 scholarships of $500 each will be made available.  To be eligible to compete for one of those scholarships, applicants must meet eligibility criteria and must complete an on-line application by the February 17, 2006 deadline.

“I am especially pleased that we were able to resolve this in a manner that is beneficial to our students,” UM President Elson S. Floyd said today.
