Account Clean Up & Migration

The University has implemented a new the Email Policy which changes the eligibility for student mailboxes. When your mailbox is identified for deletion you may request a one year extension. An email would have been sent to your University email with a survey to request an extension. If you request an extension, your email account will be migrated/synchronized and your login to your University mailbox will change.

What does it mean to migrate my account?

Your account login will change from a previous legacy method (i.e: @mail.missouri.edu, @mail.umsl.edu, @mail.umkc.edu) to username@umsystem.edu and the password used to login with other University applications such as Canvas, MyHR, etc. Your email address(es) will NOT change, the @mail.(your campus).edu address is still valid and can still be used to email you. That email alias WILL NOT be your login credentials. You will have one password that links with all of your University applications.

The email on my phone stopped working, what do I do?

Once your account has been migrated your email may stop receiving and sending emails. This can be easily fixed by removing the account and re-adding it with the new username (username@umsystem.edu). Click here for in depth instructions on removing and adding accounts on your computer and mobile devices.

Why does it need to be migrated?

To comply with the University’s security standards all accounts need to be migrated with Microsoft. Accounts must be synced in order to continue use to ensure the safety of our users and our organization.

What if I don’t need my account anymore?

We will delete the account and you will no longer have to worry about it! All emails will be deleted and you will no longer be able to login to your account. Once this account is gone, the emails cannot be recovered later.

I missed the deadline, what can I do now?

If you missed the deadline and your account has been deleted, your account CANNOT be re-established. The emails have been deleted and can no longer be accessed.

Can my emails be recovered after the account has been deleted?

Emails CANNOT be recovered if the account has been deleted. Be sure to save any important emails/documents before your account is deleted. If you have any accounts attached to your University email please switch those accounts to a personal email address.

I want to get an unofficial transcript, can my account be recovered for that?

Your account email WILL NOT be re-established for unofficial transcript requests. You can only receive an unofficial transcript if you are a current student. If you are a former student you will need to contact the Registrar office to request an official transcript.

If you are still having issues you can contact the IT Help Desk for further information and assistance.
