Welcome to the University of Missouri System! Below you will find two checklists to get you through your first day and week as a new employee at the UM System. There are plenty of helpful links embedded in this checklist to support you, so explore the many resources available to you as a University employee.
Your First Day

Enroll in your benefits by logging on to myHR.
- Remember, if you don’t enroll within 31 days of your hire date, you will be defaulted to employee only medical coverage in the Healthy Savings Plan.
- Note that unless you experience a Qualified Family Status event, your next opportunity to make changes to your benefits will be during the next annual enrollment, which is held in the fall.
- The enrolling in benefits for the first time webpage can help you decide which benefits are right for you.
Attend New Employee Orientation at your university:

- University of Missouri-St. Louis
If necessary, obtain your parking pass. Consult with your supervisor or HR for instructions.

Whether you’re an hourly or salaried employee, learn how to fill out your timesheet on the PeopleSoft HR Support website.

Complete necessary compliance training, including:
- Building a Foundation: Discrimination Prevention and Title IX
- Campus Emergency Alert Training
- Make ITSafe Information Security and Awareness

Learn more about the structure of the University and your own department by:
- Visiting the UM System organizational structure website
- Watching the UM System at a Glance video on the UM System Mission website
- Asking your manager or appropriate departmental contact about the specifics of your department
- Obtaining organizational charts, if available
Educate yourself on the industry of higher education with publications such as The Chronicle or Inside Higher Ed.
Clarify any performance expectations or policy questions that you have with your supervisor or HR. Things you might discuss include:
- Breaks/lunch
- Overtime/comp time
- Process for requesting time off (vacation/sick/personal)
- Performance expectations
- Suggested myLearn trainings
