Accidental death and dismemberment insurance

Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance is available to all benefit-eligible faculty and staff. Purchasing coverage for your family members is also an option.

Retiree coverage is available to eligible retirees who enrolled in the plan prior to retiring, and coverage amounts reduce based on age.

About the Plan

For active employees, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance is 100% employee-paid and is available in increments of $25,000 up to a maximum of $150,000. You may also purchase coverage for your family as a percentage of your own coverage.

For retirees, Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance is 100% retiree-paid. Coverage is available in increments of $10,000 up to a maximum of $50,000.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance is available to benefit-eligible faculty and staff. You may also purchase coverage for your family at a percentage of your own coverage.

Retiree coverage is available to eligible retirees who enrolled in the plan prior to retiring. Coverage amounts are reduced based upon age as of January 1 for the plan year. See "Reduction Amount for Retirees" section for additional information.

Monthly premium cost for active employees, by coverage level per amount listed:

  • Self only
    • $25,000 coverage: $0.35
    • $50,000 coverage: $0.70
    • $75,000 coverage: $1.05
    • $100,000 coverage: $1.40
    • $100,000 coverage: $1.75
    • $125,000 coverage: $2.10
  • Self and dependents
    • $25,000 coverage: $0.50
    • $50,000 coverage: $1.00
    • $75,000 coverage: $1.50
    • $100,000 coverage: $2.00
    • $100,000 coverage: $2.50
    • $125,000 coverage: $3.00

For Retirees

Monthly premium cost for eligible retirees, by coverage level per amount listed:

  • Self only
    • $10,000 coverage: $0.35
    • $25,000 coverage: $0.875
    • $50,000 coverage: $1.75
  • Self and dependents
    • $10,000 coverage: $0.47
    • $25,000 coverage: $1.175
    • $50,000 coverage: $2.35
 

➖ Reduction in Amount for Retirees

Coverage amounts are reduced for retirees based upon age as of January 1 for the plan year.

  • $50,000 at retirement:
    • Age 70-74 (as of Jan. 1): $25,000
    • Age 75-80* (as of Jan. 1): $10,000
  • $25,000 at retirement:
    • Age 70-74 (as of Jan. 1): $25,000
    • Age 75-80* (as of Jan. 1): $10,000
  • $10,000 at retirement:
    • Age 70-74 (as of Jan. 1): $10,000
    • Age 75-80* (as of Jan. 1): $10,000

*Coverage ends on the December 31 of the plan year in which you turn age 80.
